Trump Advocates for Tax-Free Tips for Service Workers in Las Vegas Address

Created: JANUARY 26, 2025

During a Saturday visit to Las Vegas, former President Donald Trump addressed a crowd at the Circa Resort and Casino, focusing on his commitment to eliminating taxes on tips for service industry employees. He emphasized this as a key element of his agenda for American workers.

Speaking directly to the city's numerous hospitality workers, Trump declared, "Any worker who relies on tips as income, your tips will be 100% yours." This policy, previously mentioned as a potential 2024 campaign promise, was highlighted in his address.

Trump also engaged with Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo, inquiring about the significance of this issue during the recent election. He pointed out the nationwide impact, stating that over four million workers, including approximately 700,000 single mothers, rely on tip income. He further noted that in Nevada, tips constitute a significant portion of restaurant workers' earnings.

Drawing a contrast with his former opponent, President Biden, Trump characterized the Biden administration as marked by "incompetence and inflation," asserting that these economic challenges disproportionately affected service workers.

Trump's visit to Nevada, a state that typically leans Democrat, was framed as a thank you to voters for their support in the November election. He reiterated this sentiment during his speech, expressing gratitude for Nevada's electoral outcome.

Beyond the tip tax issue, Trump also touched on other actions taken by his administration, such as withdrawing from the World Health Organization (WHO) and scaling back federal diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. He described these moves as eliminating "woke crap" to a receptive audience.

Finally, Trump mentioned freezing hiring within the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), claiming that the agency had attempted to hire 88,000 new employees to target taxpayers. He suggested a plan to either terminate these positions or reassign them to border security.
