Created: JANUARY 26, 2025

Just hours before President Trump's second inauguration, the Multnomah County Elections office in southeast Portland, Oregon, was significantly damaged by vandals. Portland police reported that around two dozen windows and two doors were shattered by rocks in the early morning hours. Graffiti described as "anti-government/anti-establishment" was also found on the building.

Police believe approximately 8-10 individuals were involved. Surveillance footage and images of the suspects have been released. While the vandals fled the scene before authorities arrived, an election worker confirmed that every street-facing window was broken. However, nothing appeared to be stolen, and interior damage was limited to shattered glass. Authorities have stated that there's no current evidence connecting the vandalism to the inauguration.

This incident follows a string of politically charged attacks during the 2024 election. In one instance, a suspect, still at large, used an incendiary device to set fire to a ballot drop box in Portland. This was just one of several similar incidents in Oregon and Washington. One incident in Vancouver, Washington resulted in the destruction of hundreds of ballots. Authorities have linked three separate ballot box fires through recovered materials and are offering a reward for information leading to the perpetrator's arrest and conviction.
