WNBA star Caitlin Clark recently shared her childhood admiration for Notre Dame and how she almost became a Fighting Irish. Growing up in the Midwest, Notre Dame held a special allure for Clark, representing tradition and prestige.

Despite family encouragement and the legendary status of Notre Dame, Clark revealed on the "New Heights" podcast that a gut feeling led her to choose a different path. She ultimately committed to the University of Iowa, a decision that would shape her remarkable career.

At Iowa, Clark shattered records, becoming the all-time leading scorer in college basketball history, both men's and women's. Her time at Iowa also led her to her current boyfriend, Connor McCaffery, son of Iowa men's basketball coach Fran McCaffery.

While Notre Dame continued to be a strong program, Clark's Iowa Hawkeyes reached new heights, making it to two consecutive national championship games. Clark's exceptional performance propelled her to become the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft, selected by the Indiana Fever. Serendipitously, McCaffery was already working in Indiana, and the couple remains in the state today.

Clark's rookie WNBA season was nothing short of spectacular. She earned Rookie of the Year honors, was selected as an All-Star, led the league in assists, and guided the Fever to the playoffs. Her achievements culminated in being named Time magazine's Athlete of the Year for 2024.
