Veteran NASCAR driver Martin Truex Jr. secured his fourth victory at Sonoma Raceway on Sunday, showcasing a masterful performance that solidified his position as one of the track's most successful competitors. Overtaking Chase Elliott following a late-stage restart, Truex skillfully held off Kyle Busch to claim his second NASCAR Cup Series win of the season.

The 42-year-old driver expertly maneuvered his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota to victory on the challenging road course, adding to his previous wins at the venue in 2013, 2018, and 2019. His four wins at Sonoma are second only to Jeff Gordon's five. This latest triumph marks the 33rd win of Truex's Cup career and his second in the last six races, following a win at Dover. He has also achieved seven top-10 finishes in his last nine races, demonstrating remarkable consistency.

Elliott, returning from a one-race suspension, finished fifth. He briefly held the lead twice in the final stage but was ultimately overtaken by Truex, who benefited from fresher tires. Joey Logano and Chris Buescher finished third and fourth, respectively. Truex and second-place finisher Busch achieved the 11th 1-2 finish of their extensive Cup careers, with Busch trailing by 2.979 seconds in his Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet.

A late-race incident involving Denny Hamlin, who spun out after contact with the wall, brought out a caution with 19 laps remaining. Elliott emerged from the caution in the lead, but Truex quickly regained the top spot, which he maintained until the checkered flag. Tyler Reddick, who started second, gradually fell back in the standings and eventually suffered a blown tire with 14 laps to go. Defending champion Daniel Suárez also struggled, finishing 22nd.

Busch briefly held the lead after a caution on lap 49, but Truex regained it with 42 laps remaining after a pit stop for fresh tires. The NASCAR Cup Series takes a one-week break before resuming on June 25 at Nashville Superspeedway for the start of the 10-race playoff sprint.
