Following Hall of Fame basketball coach Bob Huggins' resignation from West Virginia University after a DUI arrest, his daughter, Jacque Huggins, has come to his defense. She criticized the university's president, E. Gordon Gee, and the board for their handling of the situation, arguing that her father's actions did not warrant his dismissal.
Huggins was arrested in Pittsburgh after his vehicle was found stopped in traffic with a flat tire. Police suspected he was intoxicated and administered sobriety tests, which he failed. His blood-alcohol content was later found to be twice the legal limit. Empty beer containers were reportedly found in his vehicle.

In a Facebook post, Jacque Huggins accused the university of hypocrisy and a lack of compassion, suggesting they should have offered support rather than immediately terminating his employment. She highlighted her father's contributions to the university, including funding for a practice facility and cancer research. She also claimed that Huggins had offered to enter rehab to retain his position, but the university refused.

She disputed the characterization of her father as an alcoholic, stating that he simply made a mistake. She also addressed the reports of beer cans in the car, explaining that her father collects cans for recycling. She believes the media has misrepresented the situation and unfairly judged her father. She further emphasized his dedication to the university and his desire to win a championship for West Virginia, describing him as a "once-in-a-thousand-year coach."

This is Huggins' second DUI arrest; the first occurred in 2004 while he was coaching at the University of Cincinnati. He was also suspended for three games at the start of the 2023-24 season for using a homophobic slur on a radio show.
