Former Wisconsin Congressman Sean Duffy is expected to be confirmed as the next Transportation Secretary on Tuesday, following an overwhelming 97-0 vote in the Senate on Monday to advance his nomination. Duffy, President Trump's nominee, appeared before the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee in January, outlining his vision for the department.

During his confirmation hearing, Duffy emphasized the significant impact the Department of Transportation has on the lives of everyday Americans. He highlighted key priorities, including enhancing aviation and highway safety, addressing the shortage of air traffic controllers, and working to rebuild public trust in Boeing after recent controversies. Duffy pledged to collaborate with Congress and the FAA to achieve these goals and ensure safe skies for all.

The nominee also addressed the urgent need to rebuild a section of Interstate 40 near the North Carolina-Tennessee border, devastated by Hurricane Helene in 2024. Duffy assured lawmakers that this reconstruction would be a top priority for him. President Trump recently visited North Carolina and pledged reforms to FEMA, criticizing the agency's response to the hurricane's aftermath.
