Minnesota Parents Outraged Over Planned Parenthood's Sex Ed Summer Camp

Created: JANUARY 27, 2025

A Minnesota mother and home educator expressed outrage over Planned Parenthood's incentivized "sex ed summer camp" for young teens. The program, offering gift cards worth $100 to $150 to participants as young as 13, has raised concerns among parents like Karin, who voiced her worries on Fox & Friends Weekend.

Karin's primary concerns revolve around the potential for predatory behavior, the "grooming" of children towards early sexual activity, and the explicit nature of the materials taught at the camp. She emphasized her dedication to child welfare, stating, "I believe most parents and families would strongly agree that we do not want our children sexualized, and that's precisely what this camp will do."

The three-week S'MORE (science-based, medically accurate, open-minded, responsible (sex) education) camp, hosted by Planned Parenthood North Central States, is free for participants aged 13 to 15 who have completed eighth grade but not yet started high school. Parental consent and commitment to the full program are required. The camp's website describes it as a "brave, creative, and collaborative environment" where campers learn sex ed and subsequently share information with their community.

While one camp in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area was canceled due to low enrollment, the program is still available for 15 to 18-year-olds in Mankato later this month. Planned Parenthood Minnesota Advocates promoted the program on Twitter, highlighting free lunches and a $150 gift card upon completion. Karin stressed the importance of parental awareness regarding the camp's content, which she describes as including "explicit instruction" on various sexual acts. She expressed concern about the potential link between financial incentives for discussing sexual activity and the risk of exploitation, stating, "I think this really feeds into conditioning kids for sex trafficking." She urged parents to prioritize their children's protection.
