In an unprecedented move, the National Sheriffs' Association (NSA) has officially endorsed Kash Patel, President-elect Trump's nominee, for the position of FBI Director. A letter addressed to the Senate Judiciary Committee not only expressed enthusiastic support for Patel but also strongly criticized the Biden administration's impact on law enforcement.
NSA President Kieran Donahue emphasized the organization's belief in Patel's widespread support and urged prompt hearings and confirmation by the Senate. This endorsement marks a historic first for the NSA, representing approximately 10,000 active members.
Patel, a vocal critic of the "deep state," has advocated for significant FBI reforms, including relocating its headquarters. His book, published last year, features a chapter dedicated to "Overhauling the FBI."

Donahue highlighted Patel's extensive credentials and experience, citing his background as a public defender in Florida, where he handled complex cases involving murder, drug trafficking, and financial crimes. He also received a Department of Justice award in 2017 for his role in prosecuting terrorists involved in the 2010 World Cup bombings.
Patel gained national prominence during the Trump administration, serving as a national security advisor and senior counsel for the House Intelligence Committee under then-Chairman Devin Nunes. The NSA president expressed confidence in Patel's ability to restore trust in the FBI through enhanced transparency, integrity, and collaboration with law enforcement agencies at all levels.

Donahue also sharply criticized the Biden administration's policies, arguing they have "undermined the rule of law" and created significant risks for the nation. He specifically pointed to border policies as contributing to increased criminal activity and hindering effective collaboration between local and federal law enforcement. The NSA president stressed the need for federal law enforcement, informed by local partnerships, to have direct access to decision-makers in Washington and for the FBI to be led by someone with the President's full confidence.

The NSA's endorsement underscores the significance of Patel's nomination and the ongoing debate surrounding the future direction of the FBI.
