Iowa Republican Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks has won re-election in the state's 1st Congressional District, defeating Democratic opponent Christina Bohannan. The Associated Press called the race on Wednesday. This marks Miller-Meeks' second term representing the southeastern Iowa district, encompassing cities like Davenport and Iowa City.

Miller-Meeks initially flipped the seat from Democratic to Republican control in a tightly contested 2020 election, winning by a mere six votes. Her margin of victory widened in the 2022 election, solidifying her position. Earlier this year, she successfully navigated a Republican primary challenge, positioning herself as a "proven conservative" against an opponent who criticized her voting record.
During the current election cycle, Miller-Meeks garnered endorsements from prominent figures within the Trump sphere, including former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and House Speaker Mike Johnson.

Bohannan, a law professor at the University of Iowa and a former state representative, focused her campaign on improving Iowa's public schools, advocating for stricter gun control measures, codifying abortion rights into federal law, and strengthening border security.
The two candidates clashed on key issues such as abortion, the economy, and immigration during a debate last month. Miller-Meeks echoed the Republican stance on immigration, attributing the current border challenges to the Biden administration's departure from Trump-era policies. Bohannan countered by accusing Republicans of obstructing a bipartisan immigration bill that she contended would have addressed the border situation effectively. Republicans, however, argued that the bill would have exacerbated the crisis.

In the 2022 general election, Miller-Meeks defeated Bohannan with 53% of the vote. The 1st Congressional District leaned towards Trump in the 2020 presidential election, with Trump securing a three-point advantage over Biden.
