Identified as 29-year-old Alejandro Garcia-Villanueva, the suspect was taken into custody by the Sacramento Police Department on Tuesday night. Santa Clara police utilized advanced video technology from Levi’s Stadium and community input to quickly identify Garcia-Villanueva and another person of interest within 24 hours. The other individual was later released without charges after investigators determined they were not involved in the crime. A search warrant executed at Garcia-Villanueva’s residence yielded evidence connected to the stabbing.
The altercation occurred near the end of Mexico's 1-0 defeat, primarily involving Mexico supporters. Disturbing footage circulating online showed the victim bleeding heavily from a wound near his upper collarbone as officers arrived. He was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, but reports suggest he is anticipated to recover fully.
