Juan Saenz-Suarez, a 27-year-old Mexican national, has been apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Milford, Texas, following a fatal hit-and-run incident in Urbana, Illinois. Saenz-Suarez is accused of causing the deaths of Chloe Polzin, 21, and Katherine Abraham, 20, on January 19th. He was reportedly aboard a bus headed for Matamoros, Mexico when authorities located and detained him.
Saenz-Suarez allegedly rear-ended the victims' vehicle while they were stopped at a red light. Additional passengers also sustained injuries in the collision. The incident took place at the intersection of University Avenue and Coler Avenue in Urbana. Following the crash, investigators identified Saenz-Suarez as the driver of a red Mitsubishi Outlander and issued an arrest warrant. The U.S. Marshals Service, collaborating with the North Texas Fugitive Task Force, successfully located and apprehended the suspect. He is currently being held in Dallas County Jail awaiting extradition to Illinois.
It has been revealed that Saenz-Suarez had previously been deported from the United States. Urbana Police Chief Larry D. Boone praised the collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies that led to the arrest, emphasizing the importance of such partnerships. Urbana Mayor Diane Wolfe Marlin also expressed condolences to the victims' families and friends.
