Former President Donald Trump recently proposed an unconventional candidate for Canadian Prime Minister: NHL legend Wayne Gretzky. Trump shared his idea on social media, suggesting that Gretzky could easily win the position without even campaigning.
Janet Gretzky, Wayne's wife, acknowledged the post by sharing it on her Instagram stories. Trump's post playfully envisioned a "Draft Wayne Gretzky" movement taking hold in Canada.

This suggestion comes amidst political turmoil in Canada, with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau facing pressure to resign following the resignation of Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland and calls for his departure from opposition leader Jagmeet Singh. The Conservative opposition has also called for an election.
Trump has previously commented on the Canadian political landscape, referring to Trudeau as "Governor" and suggesting that Canada become the 51st US state. He also remarked on Freeland's resignation, criticizing her conduct.

Gretzky's apparent support for Trump was highlighted last month when he was spotted at Mar-a-Lago wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat following Trump's presidential election win.
