Months before his arrest in connection with the Gilgo Beach murders, alleged Long Island killer Rex Heuermann was unknowingly photographed by Google Street View. The image, discovered by online sleuths, shows the 6-foot-4 architect seemingly engaged in conversation with a woman near his Fifth Avenue office in June 2022. He appears to be wearing the same light blue shirt seen in a YouTube interview from that year, discussing his work at RH Consultants & Associates. He also carries a brown over-the-shoulder bag, similar to the one he had when apprehended outside his office.

Footage of Heuermann's arrest shows plainclothes officers apprehending him on a busy sidewalk, with passersby largely unaware of the unfolding events. The architect, known for his expertise in navigating New York City's building codes, had maintained his Midtown office for decades. A building regular described Heuermann to Fox News Digital as "pretty normal" and someone he frequently encountered in the elevator.

Heuermann faces charges for the murders of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello. Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison has also identified Heuermann as the prime suspect in the death of Maureen Brainard-Barnes. The bodies of these women, known as the "Gilgo Four," were discovered wrapped in burlap along Ocean Parkway in 2010. All four victims were petite and had advertised their services on Craigslist before disappearing.

A long-time colleague described Heuermann as "really friendly and really nice," noting his meticulous nature and tidy office, a stark contrast to his dilapidated Massapequa home. Police connected Heuermann to the "Gilgo Four" through his Chevy Avalanche, cellphone records, and DNA evidence. He has pleaded not guilty to six counts of murder and is currently held without bail. Heuermann's lawyer, Michael Brown, maintains his client's innocence, suggesting to the New York Post that law enforcement is overlooking stronger leads.
