Texas Trio Sought in Oklahoma Church Shrine Theft

Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

Oklahoma City police are searching for three Texas men accused of stealing $25,000 from a man while he prayed at the Blessed Stanley Rother Shrine. The suspects, identified as Gabriel Lara, Nicholas Barrientos, and Ruben Barrientos, allegedly smashed the victim's car window and grabbed the cash while he was inside the shrine.

The incident began with the theft of a license plate from a car parked at Santa Fe South High School. Police say the trio then attached the stolen Oklahoma plate to their own vehicle before heading to a Bank of America to scout for potential victims. The victim withdrew $25,000 for a vehicle purchase and unknowingly became the target of the suspects.

The suspects reportedly followed the victim closely, even running a red light, to the shrine. While the victim was praying, the suspects allegedly broke into his car and stole the money. The men were later stopped by police in Wichita, Kansas, after an officer reported smelling marijuana and noted inconsistencies in their stories. Although no drugs were found, the officer questioned the large sum of money they possessed. The driver claimed it was from a recent vehicle sale, and they were allowed to continue.

All three suspects have Texas identification and addresses, with no known connections to Oklahoma. Arrest warrants have been issued for burglary and larceny charges. Each suspect also has prior charges in Waco, Texas. The investigation and search for the suspects are ongoing.
