Texas Representative Al Green, a Democrat who previously attempted to impeach President Trump, has launched a new impeachment effort. During a House address, Green condemned proposed actions in Gaza, linking them to ethnic cleansing and criticizing both the President and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He stated his impeachment articles address "dastardly deeds proposed and dastardly deeds done." Green emphasized this impeachment effort will be grassroots-driven, drawing on his past experience. While he stands alone currently, he asserts he stands for justice. Other House Democrats, including Caucus Chair Peter Aguilar, have indicated this is not a current priority for their caucus. Green's previous impeachment attempts were independent of those led by others against President Trump. One prior attempt focused on controversial tweets regarding certain members of Congress. During a previous impeachment attempt, Republican staff displayed a banner quoting Green's concern that without impeachment, the president would be re-elected. Then-ranking member Doug Collins cited Green's statement as an example of Democrats attempting to circumvent the electoral process. Similar to Green's efforts, during the Obama administration, the late Rep. Walter Jones Jr. repeatedly called for President Obama's impeachment. Green's office has indicated the filing of the articles is imminent.
