Seven-year-old Ivory Smith's life was tragically cut short in a devastating car accident earlier this month, leaving her family in Houston, Texas grappling with immense grief and demanding justice. The individual allegedly responsible, 41-year-old Joel Gonzalez Chacin, has been charged with intoxication manslaughter.
Ivory's aunt, Sharonda Collins, shared her family's heartbreak on 'Fox & Friends,' remembering Ivory as a vibrant and joyful child who loved dancing, gymnastics, and creating content for her YouTube channel. "She was always smiling," Collins expressed, adding a poignant note of regret, "and we didn't protect her. Texas laws didn't protect her."

The accident occurred in the early morning hours of December 1st, just days before Christmas. Authorities report that Chacin, allegedly intoxicated, violently collided with the vehicle carrying Ivory and her mother, Christina Smith. According to police, instead of rendering aid, Chacin reportedly took pictures of the scene before attempting to flee. Christina Smith survived the crash but sustained serious injuries.

Reports indicate that Chacin had a prior arrest earlier in the year for assaulting a family member, leading to an ICE hold. However, the charges were reduced to a misdemeanor, and Chacin was released after serving time, with the ICE detainer also being lifted. The circumstances surrounding the lifting of the detainer remain unclear.
Collins expressed the family's desire for stricter laws in Texas, emphasizing the need for accountability in drunk driving cases. "We want the laws in Texas to be stiffer," she stated, advocating for enhanced safety for all Texans on the road. The family is now planning a funeral for Ivory during the Christmas season, a time meant for celebration, now overshadowed by tragedy.
