Following a loss to the New York Giants, Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen responded to criticism from former Colts punter Pat McAfee concerning the team's culture. McAfee had expressed concerns about player tardiness to meetings and the overall subpar performance on the field.

Steichen addressed the criticism, stating that while occasional tardiness might occur, the team holds players accountable. He acknowledged McAfee's perspective as a former Colt invested in the team's success and recognized the shared frustration stemming from missing the playoffs. Steichen emphasized the need to raise the team's standards to avoid such outcomes in the future.

Steichen, who joined the Colts after a successful stint as the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive coordinator, aimed to elevate the team's performance. In his first season, the Colts achieved a 9-8 record despite rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson's limited playing time due to injuries. The offense ranked 10th in points and 15th in yards.

However, the current season has seen the Colts bench and subsequently reinstate Richardson, with little change in offensive output. The team currently sits at 7-9, maintaining their 16th ranking in both points scored and yards gained. They will conclude the season with a home game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
