North Korea Vows 'Toughest' Policies Against US Amid Rising Tensions

Created: JANUARY 26, 2025

Tensions continue to escalate between North Korea and the West as the reclusive nation's ruling party pledged to adopt its "toughest" policies against the United States. This declaration emerged from a high-level meeting of the Workers' Party of Korea, held from December 23rd to 27th, and attended by key figures including Kim Jong Un.

State media reported that party leadership condemned the ongoing cooperation between the U.S., Japan, and South Korea, labeling the alliance a "nuclear military bloc." The party's statement emphasized the need for decisive action, stating, "This reality clearly shows to which direction we should advance and what we should do and how."

This meeting follows North Korea's deployment of troops to support Russia's war in Ukraine, a move that has further strained relations with Western nations. The regime also targeted South Korea, calling it an "anti-communist outpost." This follows President Yoon Suk-Yeoul's recent attempt to declare martial law, which was ultimately blocked by the South Korean legislature.

After a period of silence, North Korea finally addressed President Yoon's martial law attempt through its state-run media on December 11th. The KCNA report criticized the incident as a demonstration of "fascist dictatorship" and highlighted the international community's scrutiny of South Korea's vulnerabilities. The report further speculated on the potential impact on President Yoon's political future.

Following the martial law incident, South Korea's legislature initiated impeachment proceedings against President Yoon, the outcome of which is currently under deliberation by a national court.
