Newsom's Kidnapping Accusation Against DeSantis Over Migrant Flights Sparks Heated Debate

Created: JANUARY 24, 2025

The ongoing feud between California Governor Gavin Newsom and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has intensified, with Newsom threatening DeSantis with kidnapping charges over the transport of South American migrants to Sacramento. Newsom accused DeSantis of deceptive practices, claiming he spoke with the migrants himself and confirmed they were misled.

Florida officials released footage showing migrants being assisted in their travel from Texas to Sacramento, asserting they had given their consent. The footage even highlighted a "party bus" used for transportation, a detail emphasized by Jesse Watters on "The Five."

DeSantis argues that sanctuary cities like Sacramento bear some responsibility for the migrant surge, claiming they've encouraged open border policies and must now face the consequences. He questioned their lack of empathy for the communities struggling with the influx of migrants.

Greg Gutfeld likened Newsom's actions to online heckling, suggesting he's targeting DeSantis to boost his own profile by attacking a successful governor. Gutfeld criticized Newsom's record on crime, highlighting his perceived leniency towards thieves and early release of criminals, which he contrasted with Newsom's threats against DeSantis.

Gutfeld argued that illegal immigration at a porous border is a national, not a local, issue and that connecting this national problem with the national discussion surrounding sanctuary cities is not a political stunt.

Prior to the migrants' arrival in Sacramento, Newsom stated that over a dozen migrants from Texas had been transported to New Mexico. Subsequently, reports emerged of another plane carrying 20 migrants arriving in Sacramento from Florida.
