During a White House holiday event on Monday, First Lady Jill Biden expressed her support for President Biden's decision to pardon their son, Hunter Biden. When questioned by a reporter following her remarks at the event, which was attended by National Guard members and their families, the First Lady unequivocally stated, "Of course I support the pardon of my son." The White House had previously announced the pardon on Sunday night.

The pardon covers any potential offenses Hunter Biden may have committed against the United States between January 1, 2014, and December 1, 2024. This decision comes after Hunter Biden's guilty plea to all nine federal tax charges brought by Special Counsel David Weiss and subsequent guilty verdict on three felony firearm offenses. President Biden's move to pardon his son contradicts earlier statements made over the summer where he asserted he would not interfere with the Justice Department's decision-making and ruled out a pardon for Hunter.

The pardon announcement coincided with the unveiling of the White House Christmas decorations, themed "A Season of Peace and Light." In a statement and accompanying holiday guidebook, the Bidens emphasized values such as faith, family, service, kindness, and community as guiding principles for their final holiday season in the White House.
