Transgender runner Sadie Schreiner from the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) recently secured a victory in the 200-meter dash at a women's track and field meet, reigniting the ongoing discussion surrounding transgender athletes in sports. Schreiner finished with a time of 25.17 seconds, significantly ahead of second-place finisher Lexi Rodriguez from SUNY Brockport, who clocked in at 26.92 seconds. Other top finishers included Abigail Dorunda, Makenna Manson, and Allison Nickson from Fisher College.

Despite the win, Schreiner expressed some dissatisfaction with the performance on Instagram, noting issues with their spikes and start. However, they remain optimistic about the season ahead, particularly nationals. Schreiner's participation in women's sports continues to draw attention given the NCAA's attempts to regulate the inclusion of transgender athletes. Schreiner has been a vocal advocate for trans inclusion and previously expressed frustration with the perceived lack of support from schools during their exploration of the NCAA transfer portal. They specifically cited concerns about improving athletic performance in a more competitive environment and securing financial assistance to complete their degree.

Despite facing challenges in the transfer process, Schreiner remains determined to compete, whether in Division III or elsewhere. This recent win follows a successful previous season where Schreiner earned All-American honors in outdoor track, finishing third in the 200-meter and eighth in the 400-meter races at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. They also won the 200-meter race at the Atlantic Region Indoor Championships and placed ninth in the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships.
