Eric Church Spearheads Homebuilding Initiative for Hurricane Helene Victims in North Carolina

Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

Country music star Eric Church is taking significant action to aid families devastated by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina. He's leading an ambitious project to construct dozens of homes in Avery County and the surrounding areas, offering much-needed support to those left homeless by the storm.

John Blackburn, CEO of Chief Cares Avery, the organization overseeing the project, shared that the initiative is expanding beyond its initial scope due to the widespread destruction. They aim to break ground around Easter and have families settled in their new homes by summer.

Church expressed his deep connection to the affected region in a previous Instagram post, emphasizing the personal and creative significance of the North Carolina mountains to him. Chief Cares Avery's mission extends beyond immediate housing needs, focusing on long-term community recovery by creating jobs, rebuilding schools, and supporting local businesses. The organization acknowledges that disaster relief efforts often wane as time passes, and they are committed to sustained rebuilding.

Blackburn highlighted Church and his wife Katherine Blasingame's active involvement, from securing land to collaborating with local professionals on the home designs. They maintain regular contact with the team and directly connect with affected individuals and those assisting in relief efforts. The first building site has been secured, and construction is set to begin soon.

In addition to the housing initiative, Church released a song dedicated to the hurricane victims, with proceeds going to charity, and performed at a benefit concert last October. Hurricane Helene, which struck in late September, displaced hundreds of thousands and tragically claimed over 200 lives.
