Aberg Sinks Hole-in-One at Genesis Invitational

Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

For the second consecutive week, the PGA Tour witnessed a spectacular hole-in-one. Ludvig Aberg achieved the feat on the third hole during the third round of the Genesis Invitational, hot on the heels of Emiliano Grillo's ace at the Phoenix Open's iconic 16th hole the previous week.

The 25-year-old Aberg used a pitching wedge from 140 yards out, navigating a slight downhill slope to sink the shot.

The ball landed just beyond the pin before spinning back and dropping into the cup. This marked Aberg's first hole-in-one on the PGA Tour. In contrast to the boisterous celebration that followed Grillo's ace at the 16th hole, Aberg's reaction was more reserved, consisting of a fist pump and a brief exchange with his caddy.

Starting the day at 4-under par, Aberg climbed to 7-under through eight holes, putting him in contention for the lead. At the time of reporting, he was tied for second place with Scottie Scheffler and Denny McCarthy, trailing leader Davis Thompson by one stroke. Other notable players included Patrick Rodgers at 6-under and a trio – Rory McIlroy, Tony Finau, and Samuel Stevens – at 4-under.

Despite having just one career win since turning professional in 2023 (the 2023 RSM Classic), Aberg has consistently performed well. With 34 of 39 cuts made, 13 top-ten finishes, and four runner-up positions, he's proven to be a consistent threat on the tour. Aberg is hoping this hole-in-one will give him the momentum to secure another victory at Torrey Pines.
