Jay-Z and Diddy Cleared in Rape Lawsuit: Case Dismissed with Prejudice

Created: JANUARY 24, 2025

A lawsuit accusing Jay-Z (Shawn Carter) and Sean "Diddy" Combs of rape has been dismissed with prejudice, bringing a decisive end to the legal battle. Carter expressed relief, stating the allegations were "frivolous, fictitious and appalling" and emphasizing the toll the case took on his family. He criticized the legal system, suggesting it allows accusers to make unfounded claims without consequences.

Carter's lawyer, Alex Spiro, praised his client's resilience in fighting the accusations and refusing to settle. He highlighted the dismissal as a testament to the suit's lack of merit. Diddy's legal team echoed this sentiment, characterizing the lawsuit and others like it as based on falsehoods rather than facts. They reiterated Combs' denial of any sexual assault or trafficking involvement and vowed to continue contesting such claims.

The plaintiff's lawyers, Tony Buzbee and Antigone Curis, formally notified the court of the voluntary dismissal with prejudice. The original lawsuit alleged the rape of a minor after the MTV VMAs in 2000, with Carter initially identified as "Celebrity A" observing the assault. Later filings named Carter directly, claiming his close association with Combs placed him at numerous similar incidents.

Following the lawsuit, Carter swiftly filed a motion to dismiss and challenged the plaintiff's anonymity, accusing Buzbee of orchestrating an extortion scheme. Combs currently faces separate charges of racketeering and sex trafficking and is awaiting trial.
