Journey Co-Founder and Guitarist George Tickner Dies at 76

The music world mourns the loss of George Tickner, a founding member and original rhythm guitarist of the iconic rock band Journey. Tickner, who contributed to the band's first three albums, passed away at the age of 76. The news was shared by Journey's lead guitarist and co-founder, Neal Schon, in a heartfelt Facebook post.

Schon expressed his sadness and paid tribute to Tickner's musical contributions, promising to honor his memory on his page. While the cause of death has not been publicly revealed, Schon offered condolences to Tickner's family, friends, and past and present band members.

Fans flooded social media with messages of grief and appreciation for Tickner's work. Many recalled their favorite Journey songs and expressed gratitude for the music he helped create.

Schon also shared an image of Tickner holding a Hollywood Walk of Fame star plaque and revealed that Tickner left Journey to pursue a PhD at Stanford University on a full scholarship, a testament to his diverse talents and pursuits.

Tickner's passing comes just months after Journey celebrated their 50th anniversary. Formed in 1973 by Schon, Gregg Rolie, and Herbie Herbert, the band has sold over 100 million albums and produced numerous hits, including "Don't Stop Believin'," "Open Arms," and "Separate Ways." The current lineup includes Schon, Jonathan Cain, Deen Castronovo, Arnel Pineda, Jason Derlatka, and Todd Jensen.
