Kennedy expressed shock upon recognizing Livelsberger in news reports about the explosion. He described Livelsberger as a dedicated, skilled, and capable Special Forces operator, expressing confusion and heartbreak over the incident. He stated his desire, like many others, for answers surrounding the events.

Authorities believe Livelsberger died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound before the vehicle detonated. He was identified through tattoos, credit cards, and military identification found at the scene. Livelsberger, on leave from his station in Germany with the 10th Special Forces Group, had multiple addresses associated with him.
