Reaching the century mark is a remarkable milestone, and John Fife, a World War II veteran, celebrated his 100th birthday in style with not one, but two parties. Fife, a resident of Clevedon, in North Somerset, U.K., marked the occasion with family and friends at a hotel, followed by a gathering with neighbors at his retirement community.
Fife's journey began in Edinburgh, where he was born and educated. He joined the Royal Air Force in 1943, training as a wireless operator and air gunner. His service included time with Coastal Command Air/Sea Rescue until his demobilization in 1946.

Following his military service, Fife embarked on a career in the civil service with the Post Office Savings Bank. A significant moment in his career came in 1970 when he was presented to Queen Elizabeth II during her visit to the new headquarters of the Savings Bank, now known as National Savings & Investments. He retired in 1984 and relocated to Clevedon.
Even at 100, Fife maintains an active lifestyle. He attributes his longevity to setting daily goals, like taking long walks or attending church, and enjoying activities such as puzzles. He also emphasizes the importance of helping others. Fife has embraced new friendships and activities since moving to his retirement community in 2022.

Reflecting on his life, Fife highlighted the incredible advancements in medicine and technology. He identified the smartphone as perhaps the most transformative innovation he has witnessed. Fife's story is a testament to a life well-lived, filled with service, dedication, and a continued zest for life.
