Former Biden nuclear official Sam Brinton's luggage theft scandal became a topic of discussion on Fox News' "Gutfeld!" after CNN anchor Pamela Brown claimed to be unaware of the story. Brown's assertion came during a heated exchange with Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., who brought up Brinton while discussing the Trump administration's handling of personnel overseeing nuclear weapons. Burchett pointed out the irony of Brown's concern, given Brinton's role in the Biden administration and the lack of coverage on CNN regarding the luggage thefts.

Brinton, who identifies as nonbinary and gender-fluid, initially gained attention for their appointment to a key nuclear waste policy position within the Department of Energy. The subsequent luggage theft allegations, involving suitcases filled with women's clothing taken from airports, garnered significant media attention, but Brown maintained she was uninformed about the events. This prompted Burchett to suggest she research the story. CNN's minimal coverage of the Brinton saga, consisting of a single online article and a brief on-air report downplaying Brinton's connection to Biden, potentially explains Brown's professed ignorance.

Greg Gutfeld criticized Brown's statement, characterizing it as indicative of a broader disconnect between CNN and stories that reflect negatively on the Biden administration. He highlighted the significant attention the Brinton case received outside of what he termed the "liberal bubble." Gutfeld satirized CNN's response, suggesting their motto should be, "We know nothing, but at least it’s transparent." CNN has not yet commented on the matter.

The Brinton case involved multiple instances of alleged luggage theft. The first incident occurred at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport, where Brinton was accused of stealing a bag valued at over $2,000. A second incident involved a suitcase worth over $3,500 allegedly taken from Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas while Brinton was on a taxpayer-funded trip. A third incident came to light when a fashion designer claimed Brinton was wearing clothes from her luggage, which had gone missing in 2018. Brinton avoided jail time in all three cases, entering a diversion program in Minnesota, paying restitution and fines in Las Vegas, and reaching a plea deal in the Washington D.C. case.
