Unanswered Questions Linger a Year After Three Kansas City Chiefs Fans Found Dead

Created: JANUARY 26, 2025

One year after the tragic discovery of three Kansas City Chiefs fans deceased in a snowy backyard, the circumstances surrounding their deaths remain shrouded in mystery. No criminal charges have been filed, leaving families and friends grappling with unanswered questions.

Clayton McGeeney, Ricky Johnson, and David Harrington, all in their 30s, gathered at their friend Jordan Willis's Kansas City home on January 7, 2024, to watch the Chiefs game. Two days later, McGeeney's fiancée found them lifeless on Willis's property. Willis was unreachable in the subsequent days, adding to the families' distress.

While preliminary autopsy reports indicated the presence of fentanyl, cocaine, and marijuana in their systems, the families have questioned Willis's potential involvement and hinted at legal action. Willis's attorney, John Picerno, previously stated that charges were expected against someone who potentially supplied the drugs, but no developments have been reported since.

A fifth individual present at the gathering on January 7th told Fox 4 that he departed while the game was still in progress, emphasizing he wasn't the last to see the men alive. Attempts to reach this individual's attorney for comment have been unsuccessful.

Picerno described the investigation's duration as unusual, noting that Willis cooperated fully with authorities, providing electronic devices and DNA samples. The Platte County Prosecutor's Office stated the investigation is ongoing with no timeline for resolution. The Kansas City Police Department has remained unavailable for comment.

While confident his client will avoid criminal charges, Picerno anticipates civil lawsuits. David Harrington's mother expressed cautious optimism about potential movement in the case, emphasizing the families' lack of information and desire for accountability. Willis, who has since relocated and entered rehab, has experienced significant life changes due to the incident.
