A Florida man is facing serious charges after allegedly subjecting a child to a brutal half-hour of physical and verbal abuse over a misplaced couch cushion. 42-year-old Lance Rachel Sr. was arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse and battery by strangulation following an investigation by the Osceola County Sheriff's Office. The incident, which reportedly occurred on December 7th in a Kissimmee home, wasn't reported to authorities until several days later.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Rachel Sr. became enraged over the displaced cushion, accusing the child of lying about its whereabouts. The ensuing punishment allegedly involved a barrage of obscenities, physical violence, and threats. Deputies report the child was struck with a belt over 50 times, choked, and subjected to a stream of verbal abuse, including a threat to break the child’s jaw. Parts of the disturbing incident were reportedly captured by in-home surveillance cameras.

The investigation also led to the arrest of 35-year-old Kimberly Rachel, who was charged with failure to report known child abuse. She confirmed the details of the incident to deputies on December 16th.
