A tragic accident during a religious procession in India's northeastern region has resulted in the loss of six lives and left ten individuals injured. The incident occurred on Wednesday near Kumarghat, Tripura, approximately 75 miles from the state capital, when a temple chariot made contact with a high-tension power line, causing it to catch fire.

According to Bhagawan Das, a representative of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, a substantial crowd of devotees were participating in the procession, pulling the chariot, a large structure constructed of wood and steel. The chariot was dedicated to the Hindu deity Jagannath.

Those injured in the incident have been admitted to the hospital, with some suffering severe burns. Temple chariots, often reaching heights of up to 45 feet, are traditional wooden structures utilized during religious festivals.

This unfortunate event echoes a similar tragedy from the previous year in Tamil Nadu, where eleven people lost their lives when a temple chariot also came into contact with an overhead power line.
