Attorney and sexual abuse victims advocate Sarah Klein, recognized as the first known survivor of Larry Nassar's abuse, issued a statement Monday following news of the former sports doctor's prison stabbing. Nassar, currently serving a lengthy prison sentence, was reportedly involved in an altercation with another inmate at a federal prison in Florida, resulting in stab wounds to his back and chest, according to sources. Federal officials confirmed the stabbing incident, which occurred on Sunday, and the subsequent medical treatment provided to an unidentified inmate.

Klein expressed that the attack on Nassar does not bring her personal peace or solace to other survivors. She emphasized the trauma of reliving the abuse they endured at Nassar's hands and the failure of institutions, including law enforcement, to protect them. Klein firmly stated her desire for Nassar to serve his full prison sentence, rejecting violence as a solution and urging authorities to ensure Nassar remains accountable for his crimes.

A former competitive gymnast, Klein was a child when Nassar's abuse began. A recipient of the Arthur Ashe Courage Award for speaking out, she is now a prominent figure supporting fellow survivors and advocating for those in similar situations. Klein also practices law at Manly, Stewart & Finaldi.
Nassar's decades-long prison sentence stems from his conviction for sexually assaulting numerous gymnasts, including Olympic medalists, during his time at Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics. He also pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography. During victim impact statements, several athletes testified that their reports of Nassar's abuse to coaches, trainers, and other adults over two decades went unheeded.

Nassar is expected to remain incarcerated for life.
