A weekend shooting in Farsta, a suburb south of Stockholm, has left two individuals dead and two others injured. Authorities suspect the incident stems from ongoing conflicts between criminal gangs. The attack occurred on Saturday evening near a subway station entrance. A man armed with an automatic weapon opened fire, hitting four people. A 15-year-old boy died at the scene, and a 43-year-old man later succumbed to his injuries.

Two men in their 20s have been apprehended under suspicion of murder and attempted murder. Justice Minister Gunnar Strommer stated that police estimate 21 shots were fired, characterizing the event as "domestic terrorism." Among the injured was a woman in her 60s who was unlocking her bicycle at the time of the shooting. She reported hearing approximately five shots before realizing she had been hit in the knee. She took cover and called for assistance.

This incident underscores the escalating issue of gang violence in Sweden. Over recent decades, drive-by shootings, bombings, and grenade attacks have become increasingly prevalent, concentrated primarily in Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmo. Police data reveals a disturbing trend: 144 shootings resulting in 18 deaths and 41 injuries so far this year. 2022 saw a record high of 62 shooting fatalities, with 391 shootings and 107 injuries. In 2021, a report indicated that Sweden had surpassed Italy and several Eastern European countries in terms of gang-related violence.

The Swedish government has pledged to address this growing problem through stricter legislation.
