Boxing legend Mike Tyson finds himself embroiled in a legal battle following his highly publicized match against Jake Paul last month. A promotional company, Medier, has filed a lawsuit against Tyson and his company, Tyrannic, in London's High Court, seeking over $1.5 million in damages.
Medier, which promotes the betting platform Rabona, alleges that Tyson unjustly terminated their promotional agreement in March. The lawsuit contends that Tyson claimed Medier breached the contract, signed in January, but Medier disputes this assertion. Instead, the company argues the real reason for the termination was Tyson's Netflix-sponsored deal to fight Paul.
Tyson's legal team counters that Medier failed to secure Tyson's approval for promotional materials, constituting a breach of contract. Medier is demanding the return of over $800,000 in fees paid to Tyson for services allegedly not rendered, along with an additional $729,000 for wasted production and promotional expenses.
While Tyson lost the official fight against Paul, impacting his professional record, he reportedly earned $20 million for the event. The bout drew a massive audience, with over 72,000 spectators at AT&T Stadium in Dallas and millions more streaming on Netflix. The event garnered over 108 million viewers, making it the most-streamed sporting event in history.
