Congressman Jack Bergman has voiced serious national security concerns and urged the Department of Justice to investigate the "Mapping Project," an online platform allegedly supported by the Iranian regime. The website is accused of inciting violence against American law enforcement and Jewish communities.
In a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland, Rep. Bergman, R-Mich., requested an immediate investigation into the website's origins, funding, and potential ties to Iran. He emphasized the need to safeguard American national security and religious freedoms.

The Mapping Project, launched in 2022, features an interactive map highlighting over 500 organizations in Massachusetts it designates for "dismantling." These organizations span various sectors, including civil society, government, national security, religious groups, and community organizations. The project's targets include police stations, military bases, and federal offices, many of which contribute to national security. The Congressman highlighted the website's use of extreme, and at times violent, rhetoric.

Rep. Bergman cited a report by the Zachor Legal Institute, endorsed by 17 other NGOs, which suggests Iranian involvement in the Mapping Project's development and promotion. He noted endorsements of the project from Iranian state-owned media outlets like PressTV, which has called for the project's expansion to other states, and Al Mayadeen, linked to Hezbollah. PressTV has been sanctioned by the U.S. government.

The Congressman expressed particular concern about the project's antisemitic and anti-Israel sentiments, given its targeting of numerous Jewish institutions. He drew a connection to the rise in antisemitic attacks in the U.S., including the shootings at the Chabad of Poway and Tree of Life synagogues, and the hostage situation at a synagogue in Colleyville, Texas.
The Justice Department has yet to respond to press inquiries regarding a potential investigation into the Mapping Project.
