Ravens Fan Denied Bail Again in Assault Case Due to Substance Abuse Concerns

Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

A Baltimore Ravens supporter involved in a filmed assault on two Washington Commanders fans last October will remain incarcerated as his trial approaches. A Maryland judge denied his bail request for a second time, citing ongoing substance abuse issues as a primary concern.

On Tuesday, Baltimore Circuit Judge Yolanda A. Tanner ruled against releasing 24-year-old Jack Callis, stating that the court hadn't received adequate information regarding inpatient treatment options. According to The Baltimore Banner, Judge Tanner expressed disappointment with the lack of progress in addressing Callis's substance abuse.

Callis initially had his bail denied on October 23rd by District Judge LaTina Burse Greene. While Judge Greene indicated a willingness to consider release if Callis entered an inpatient treatment program combined with home detention, this has yet to materialize.

The charges stem from an October 21st incident where Callis surrendered to Baltimore Police after a video of him assaulting two Commanders fans circulated widely on social media. The footage shows Callis, wearing a Lamar Jackson jersey, approaching the two men and initiating a physical altercation, knocking one unconscious and repeatedly punching the other before throwing him against a wall.

Callis faces serious charges, including one count of first-degree assault and three counts of second-degree assault. During his initial bail hearing, he reportedly admitted to using cocaine daily for the past four years, including on the day of the incident. Previous assault charges were also brought to light during the proceedings.

If convicted, Callis could face up to 25 years in prison for the first-degree assault charge and an additional 10 years for each second-degree assault charge.
