President Trump's Approval Ratings Experience Slight Dip One Month into Second Term

Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

Recent national polls reveal a minor decline in President Donald Trump's approval ratings since the beginning of his second term in office. A Quinnipiac University poll shows 45% approval and 49% disapproval, a slight decrease from the 46% approval and 43% disapproval recorded in late January. Gallup's poll reflects a similar trend, with 45% approval and 51% disapproval, compared to 47% approval and 48% disapproval last month. A Reuters/Ipsos poll also places the president at 44% approval and 51% disapproval, down slightly from the previous survey.

Despite the dip, Trump's early weeks have been marked by a flurry of executive orders and actions. He has signed 73 executive orders since his inauguration, exceeding the pace set by recent predecessors. The president has actively promoted his achievements, highlighting what he considers significant progress. He contrasted his accomplishments with those of his predecessor, former President Biden, claiming to have achieved more in three weeks than Biden did in four years.

While Trump's current approval ratings are higher than at the start of his first term, they are lower than Biden's initial ratings, which were in the low to mid-50s. Biden's approval later declined following controversies surrounding the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, rising inflation, and border security issues.

The polls reveal a stark partisan divide, with strong Republican support for Trump (90% in the Quinnipiac poll and 93% in the Gallup poll) contrasting sharply with low approval among Democrats (4% in both polls). Independent support falls in between. Interestingly, while Trump's approval has dipped slightly, congressional approval has seen a notable increase to 29%, its highest since May 2021, according to Gallup.
