Actress Lindsey Shaw, known for her role as Paige McCullers on the popular teen drama "Pretty Little Liars," recently shared the difficult circumstances surrounding her exit from the show. In a candid conversation on "Ned’s Declassified Podcast Survival Guide," Shaw revealed that her departure stemmed from struggles with substance use and disordered eating.
Shaw explained that her reliance on Adderall masked her complicated relationship with food. However, significant weight loss during her time on the show led to her dismissal in the fifth season. She described the experience as embarrassing, admitting that she didn't look healthy at her lowest weight. Subsequently, regaining the weight also became a challenge, trapping her in a harmful cycle.

Shaw recounted the difficult conversation with the show's creator, I. Marlene King, who informed her of the decision. Although King acknowledged Shaw's acting abilities, she expressed concern for the actress's well-being and encouraged her to seek support. Despite the painful nature of the situation, Shaw emphasized the care and consideration shown by King during the process.

Shaw also shared that her co-star, Shay Mitchell, recognized her struggles and offered support, even providing protein powder and recommending a nutritionist. The actress expressed gratitude for Mitchell's kindness during a challenging period.

While the experience was undoubtedly difficult, Shaw expressed deep appreciation for the show's writers, who brought her character back for the final season, allowing her to provide closure. Although she is now in a much better place, Shaw acknowledges the lasting impact of her past struggles and the challenges she has faced in rebuilding her career.

Shaw's story highlights the pressures faced by young actors in the entertainment industry and the importance of addressing substance use and mental health challenges.
