Interim USMNT coach B.J. Callaghan acknowledged the learning experience, stating, "There’s a lot we’ll take away as we continue preparing for 2026," referencing the upcoming World Cup co-hosted by the United States. Callaghan praised the blend of veteran leadership and young talent within the squad, highlighting their contributions and aspirations for the 2026 roster.

Iván Anderson gave Panama the lead in the ninth minute of extra time, netting his first international goal. The US quickly responded, with Jesús Ferreira equalizing six minutes later, bringing his tournament tally to seven goals.

This marks Panama's third appearance in the Gold Cup final, having previously lost to the US in both 2005 and 2013. They will now face eight-time champions Mexico in the final on Sunday in Inglewood, California.

For the US, this is their first failure to reach the Gold Cup final since 2015, when they lost to Jamaica in the semifinals. The match also marked the end of B.J. Callaghan's interim coaching tenure, with Gregg Berhalter set to return for the September 9th exhibition against Uzbekistan.

Callaghan took responsibility for the team's slow start, admitting his tactical setup in the first half was flawed. The US had only 34% possession in the first half. Despite an early chance that hit the post, the US struggled to create significant opportunities until Anderson's breakthrough goal.
