Katharine Roxanne Grawe, MD, known online as "Dr. Roxy," has had her Ohio medical license permanently revoked following concerns over her practice of livestreaming surgical procedures on TikTok. The Ohio Medical Board's decision, finalized on Wednesday, prohibits Grawe from practicing medicine in the state.

The board cited Grawe's negligence in patient care during these livestreams, where she would interact with viewers and answer questions while actively performing surgeries at her Powell clinic, Roxy Plastic Surgery. The board had initially suspended Grawe's license in November.

Concerns about Grawe's practices were initially raised by the board as early as 2018, with warnings issued regarding patient privacy and potential ethical breaches. These concerns escalated following complications experienced by three of Grawe's patients, requiring extensive medical intervention. In one instance, a patient suffered a perforated intestine a week after a procedure that Grawe partially livestreamed, leading to severe abdominal damage, infections, and neurological impairment.

During the hearing, Grawe acknowledged her actions fell short of professional standards, expressing regret for the unprofessional appearance of the videos. She attributed her motivation to a passion for educating others about plastic surgery. Grawe also shared the personal toll of the controversy, citing the breakdown of her marriage, harassment of her children, and the necessity of laying off staff.
Despite receiving two formal warnings from the board in 2018 and 2021, and claiming to have completed social media ethics courses in 2021, Grawe continued posting videos of surgical procedures, including Brazilian butt lifts, as recently as October 2022. Grawe has a limited window to appeal the board's decision.
