Even a prominent figure like Jim Carrey can grow weary of the spotlight. With the release of "Sonic the Hedgehog 3," Carrey revealed that his time away from Hollywood was partly to give the public a respite from his constant presence. He expressed his appreciation for personal time and stepping out of the public eye, telling E! News, "I do value the rest... And I also value getting out of people's faces."

Carrey's 2022 announcement of his retirement following "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" surprised many. He stated he felt content with his career, telling Access Hollywood, "I have enough. I've done enough. I am enough." However, he's now back, viewing the entertainment world with renewed perspective. He explained to E! News that stepping away, even from something you love, can provide a fresh appreciation and a different viewpoint.

Beyond a renewed appreciation for his craft, Carrey candidly admitted financial considerations played a role in his return. In a discussion with The Associated Press, he humorously confessed, "I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly." He also hinted at his openness to future roles, stating, "Yes, I'm sure something will happen." Playing a genius in "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" was a draw, although he jokingly admitted it was "a bit of a stretch."

"I came back to this universe because, first of all, I get to play a genius. Which is a bit of a stretch…I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly."
