New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson has been a prominent figure in the NBA, but injuries have significantly hampered his career. Drafted first overall in 2019 after a dazzling college season at Duke, expectations were sky-high. However, injuries have limited him to just 114 games over four seasons, including missing the entire 2021-22 season due to a foot injury.
Recently, on Gilbert Arenas's podcast, "Gil's Arena," Williamson candidly discussed the challenges he's faced, including difficulties maintaining a healthy diet. He admitted that having significant wealth at a young age made it challenging to prioritize healthy habits. "It's hard, man. I'm 20, 22, have all the money in the world – well, it feels like all the money in the world. It's hard," Williamson explained.
He's now actively seeking guidance and wisdom from experienced individuals to help him make better choices. Williamson emphasized his commitment to personal growth, acknowledging his past shortcomings and his determination to address them. "Like Coach K taught me, I have to own up to my responsibilities," Williamson stated, referencing his former Duke coach, Mike Krzyzewski. "There are a lot of things I could have done better. I didn't. I'm in the process of fixing those wrongs."
Williamson's frustration with being sidelined due to injury was also apparent. He expressed his desire to be on the court contributing to his team's success. "I'm a hooper. When I'm sitting on the sidelines watching my teammates in certain games they're losing, I know if I was out there, I could change the outcome," he shared.
Despite the setbacks, Williamson's talent remains undeniable. He's a two-time All-Star with career averages of 25.8 points and 7 rebounds per game. With the 2023-24 season approaching, Williamson has several months to prepare and aims to be in peak physical condition.
