Two Missouri homeowners thwarted a burglary attempt in McDonald County when they confronted and shot an armed intruder who had entered their residence. The suspect, identified as 62-year-old James F. Garrett from Seneca, allegedly fired upon the homeowners first, prompting them to return fire and wound him in both thighs.
The incident unfolded on Wednesday at a home on Buffalo Creek Road near Tiff City, a town straddling the Missouri-Oklahoma border. According to McDonald County Sheriff Rob Evenson, the homeowners returned to their property to discover Garrett barricaded inside. Following the exchange of gunfire, the homeowners managed to disarm Garrett and hold him until law enforcement arrived.

Garrett was transported to a Joplin hospital for medical treatment. The McDonald County Prosecutor is reviewing potential charges against Garrett, including burglary, first-degree assault, and armed criminal action. No charges are expected to be filed against the homeowners.

Sheriff Evenson confirmed that the homeowners were unharmed during the incident. While Fox News Digital reached out to the Sheriff's Office for further details, they did not receive an immediate response.
