Biden Campaign Aide's Husband Consulted for Hunter Biden Amid Burisma Scrutiny

Created: JANUARY 21, 2025

A key figure in President Biden's re-election campaign, Elizabeth Alexander, is married to David Wade, a consultant who provided advice to Hunter Biden during a period of intense public examination regarding his role with the Ukrainian energy firm, Burisma Holdings. Alexander, currently on leave from her position as Jill Biden's communications director, is spearheading the messaging efforts for the President's campaign. Her extensive experience includes serving as the President's spokesperson during his Senate and Vice Presidential years, as well as contributing to the 2020 campaign.

Wade, a lecturer at Yale University and a public affairs strategist, concluded his tenure at the State Department in June 2015 and established GreenLight Strategies shortly thereafter. In September 2015, he contacted Eric Schwerin, president of Hunter Biden's then-active Rosemont Seneca Partners, offering assistance with "rapid response" concerning Hunter Biden and the firm, seemingly related to Burisma, based on subsequent email exchanges.

Wade proposed an initial project involving meetings and research to anticipate potential issues and prepare talking points and supporting documents for a "rapid response playbook." He quoted a fee of $10,000, which Schwerin relayed to Hunter Biden, indicating his and Devon Archer's approval. Archer also held a position on Burisma's board alongside Hunter Biden.

David Wade reached out to Eric Schwerin about helping Hunter Biden with rapid response as he was dealing with increased scrutiny of his Burisma role.

This interaction followed earlier communication where Hunter Biden offered Wade his support upon Wade's transition to the private sector. Subsequent emails reveal a meeting scheduled between Hunter Biden and Wade in October 2015, followed by a phone call including potentially Schwerin.

Mid-October 2015, Schwerin emailed Hunter Biden, Wade, and Archer regarding responses to inquiries from The Wall Street Journal, focusing on Hunter Biden's transition from the Burisma Holdings board to the Burisma Geothermal board.

Further correspondence addressed potential conflicts of interest related to Hunter Biden's board role and the then-Vice President's policies. Later, Schwerin addressed Wade's invoice for his Burisma-related work, raising questions about payment responsibility. Wade was also included in emails regarding draft responses to a New York Times inquiry.

White House visitor logs indicate Wade's presence at least five times in recent years, some for larger events and others with Jill Biden's aide listed as the point of contact. Neither Alexander, Wade, Hunter Biden's legal representation, the White House, nor the Biden campaign responded to requests for comment. This disclosure follows previous reports on connections between other Biden campaign figures and Hunter Biden, as well as Hunter Biden's attendance at a White House holiday party with business associates linked to Burisma shortly after then-Vice President Biden's trip to Ukraine.
