Meghan Markle has stepped back into the spotlight with a new Netflix lifestyle series, "With Love, Meghan," premiering January 15th. The Duchess of Sussex serves as both host and executive producer, marking her return to the public eye after a period of relative quiet. However, her re-emergence hasn't been met with universal enthusiasm, particularly from across the pond.

Royal commentators suggest that the British royal family is unlikely to be tuning in. Kinsey Schofield, host of the "To Di For Daily" podcast, claims that Prince William and Kate Middleton have no interest in Meghan's ventures, citing a palace source who described Meghan as a "background character in a chapter that’s already closed." Schofield further alleges that the palace plans to have a junior staff member monitor the series for any potentially damaging remarks about the royal family, as they haven't been provided with advance screenings.

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams echoed this sentiment, suggesting that the royals are indifferent to the series, which he deemed "superficial." While acknowledging the continued public interest in the Sussex brand, he questioned the show's substance.

This new series follows the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s 2020 departure from royal duties and their subsequent move to California. Their multi-million dollar Netflix deal has already yielded the docuseries "Harry & Meghan" and the sports docuseries "Polo." "With Love, Meghan" represents Meghan’s first solo project with the streaming giant. It features appearances from celebrities like Mindy Kaling and Abigail Spencer.

Royal commentators believe that the royal family will remain focused on their duties following a challenging year marked by health concerns for both King Charles and Kate Middleton. Some suggest that King Charles hopes the Sussexes’ ventures will provide them with financial stability and lessen any potential future reliance on the royal family.

Comparisons have been drawn between Meghan and Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, who has also pursued media projects. However, unlike Sarah, Meghan’s strained relationship with the royal family seems unlikely to improve in the near future.
