Television's late-night comedians, including Seth Meyers, Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, and Jimmy Fallon, offered their perspectives on Donald Trump's return to the presidency on Monday. Many of the hosts framed the inauguration as a difficult moment for the nation.
On NBC's "Late Night," Seth Meyers opened his show by reflecting on the day, juxtaposing Martin Luther King Jr. Day with the inauguration. He expressed disbelief, stating, "It’s too weird to be real." Meyers didn't hold back on his criticism of Trump's inaugural address, calling it a disconcerting blend of "ominous fascism" and peculiar details only relevant to Trump and his supporters.

Over on CBS's "The Late Show," Stephen Colbert acknowledged the reality of Trump's return, asking his audience, "How did we get here?" He conveyed a sense of grappling with the situation.
Jimmy Fallon, host of NBC's "Tonight Show," received a chorus of boos from his audience after announcing Trump's inauguration. He responded to the reaction by saying, "We’re all united. That’s great to know."

On ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!," Jimmy Kimmel, a well-known critic of Trump, recounted a series of personal anecdotes about a chaotic morning leading up to the inauguration, describing them as a mere "appetizer" for the main event. He pointedly referred to Trump as "the first convicted felon to be sworn-in as president." Kimmel also referenced a previous interview where he expressed his apprehension about a potential Trump victory, highlighting the weight of his platform and the responsibility he felt to address his viewers on such a significant occasion.
