In a thrilling Monday night matchup at Chase Field, the Arizona Diamondbacks emerged victorious after a back-and-forth battle against the Philadelphia Phillies, extending their winning streak to six games. The 9-8 victory was marked by dramatic swings in momentum, heated exchanges, and an impressive cycle by Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto.
Realmuto ignited the Phillies' offense early with a solo home run in the first and a two-run triple in the third, staking his team to a 5-1 lead. However, the Diamondbacks refused to back down. Evan Longoria's three-run blast in the sixth inning proved crucial, propelling Arizona to a lead they would not relinquish.
The game's intensity escalated in the third inning when Phillies starter Matt Strahm hit Corbin Carroll with a pitch for the second time in three innings. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo vehemently protested, leading to a benches-clearing incident and the ejections of both Lovullo and Diamondbacks reserve infielder Josh Rojas. Despite the heated atmosphere, the Diamondbacks rallied, tying the game at 5-5 in the same inning thanks to a run-scoring triple from Carroll.
While Realmuto's historic cycle – completed with a double in the ninth – brought the Phillies within a run, a controversial near-home run by Kody Clemens, ultimately ruled a foul ball after review, sealed the Diamondbacks' victory. Miguel Castro struck out Clemens on the next pitch to secure his seventh save.
Ketel Marte contributed three hits and three runs for the Diamondbacks, while Jake McCarthy went 3 for 4. Despite the loss, Realmuto made history, becoming the first catcher to hit for the cycle since George Kottaras in 2011 and the 17th in MLB history.
In other roster moves, the Diamondbacks reinstated catcher Carson Kelly from the 60-day injured list and left-handed pitcher Joe Mantiply from the 15-day injured list.
