The incident occurred on June 13, 2020, as Brazeal attempted to deploy Stop Sticks to halt a fleeing suspect. The suspect swerved to avoid the device, hitting Brazeal and dragging him along West Loop 820. First responders initially feared the worst, but Brazeal miraculously survived, despite suffering a broken pelvis, collapsed lung, brain injury, and numerous broken bones.

Brazeal's determination to return to the force fueled his arduous recovery. He dedicated himself to extensive physical therapy and rehabilitation, overcoming countless obstacles. While a recent unexpected surgery has slightly delayed his official return, Brazeal remains resolute in his commitment to serving his community.
