In an open letter addressed to the USA Fencing board, the FFO urged the governing body to prioritize its members' interests over political considerations when making decisions regarding tournament locations, transgender athlete participation, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

The FFO's letter specifically criticizes USA Fencing's alleged preference for states with lenient abortion laws when choosing tournament sites. The organization argues that factors like safety, accessibility, and financial viability should take precedence, citing past instances where fencers faced security concerns at tournament locations. They contend that prioritizing political viewpoints over member safety is unacceptable.

Regarding transgender athletes, the FFO suggests establishing an all-women task force to examine the impact of transgender inclusion in women's fencing. While not opposing transgender participation outright, the organization expresses concerns and hints at potential legal action if their concerns aren't addressed. They advocate for a respectful dialogue where the perspectives of all female athletes can be heard.

The FFO also questions USA Fencing's use of member funds for DEI positions. They argue that such expenditures should only occur with the explicit approval of the majority of members, emphasizing that the organization should not fund politically motivated initiatives without broader consensus.

USA Fencing has responded by stating that they will address these issues during their upcoming board meeting. They emphasized their commitment to following established governance procedures and that board members are elected to represent the best interests of the fencing community.
