Chicago Cubs manager David Ross was ejected from Sunday's game against the New York Yankees after a fiery confrontation with home plate umpire Alex MacKay. The incident occurred in the bottom of the first inning, before the Cubs recorded an out.
With Cubs pitcher Kyle Hendricks having thrown only five pitches, Ross expressed his displeasure with MacKay's calls from the dugout. MacKay overheard Ross's remarks and promptly ejected him.

A hot mic captured the exchange between Ross and MacKay. Ross could be heard saying, "You’ve got to be better. You got one game before you get a break and you’re that bad already? Why?"

As Ross returned to the dugout, he appeared to make further critical remarks towards MacKay. The reason for Ross's outburst remains somewhat unclear, though it may have stemmed from a perceived missed call or a pitch clock violation against Hendricks earlier in the inning.

The ejection forced Ross to leave the field and enter the clubhouse for the remainder of the game, just before the All-Star break.
